Dr. Martinez is a Professor of Sociology at Michigan State University and the Director of the Julian Samora Research Institute, which focuses on reseearch and evaluation in Latino/a communities. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California-Riverside. Dr. Martinez is a nationally known researcher in the areas of race and ethnic relations, higher education, environmental justice and social stratification. Dr. Martinez also chairs the interstate initiative, Latinos and Immigrants in Midwestern Communities, which promotes collaborative research and education in several areas, including education, entrepreneurship, building immigrant-friendly communities, building diversity competent organizations, and civic engagement.
