Peter Lichtenberg, PhD

Professor, Psychology; Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Director, Institute of Gerontology; Director, Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute

Dr. Lichtenberg is a Professor of Psychology and a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Wayne State University, as well as their Director of the Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute He graduated with his Ph.D. from Purdue University. Dr. Lichtenberg is a national expert in financial capacity assessment and financial exploitation of older adults, with a specific focus on psychological vulnerability and fraud. He has also created a new measurement instrument, termed the Lichtenberg Financial Decision Making Rating Scale. His particular areas of research include mental health in long term care, geriatric depression, geriatric psychology and medical rehabilitation and the early detection and management of Alzheimer's Disease. Emerging research includes financial decision making, Perceived Cognitive Impairment, victims of fraud and kinship care.
